Indoor Wood Treatment
Many of us have wood indoors in the form of furniture, floors, and staircases — and we can all agree that wood is an incredibly versatile, durable, and beautiful material that adds warmth and a natural feel to any home. To preserve the wood’s functionality and durability, it’s important to treat it correctly and with care.
Why Indoor Wood Treatment Matters
Oiling wood is a popular method because it not only protects the surface from wear, but also enhances the wood’s natural beauty. Oil adds depth and helps bring out the natural grain patterns and structure of the wood. Oil also helps protect wood against moisture and daily wear by forming a protective layer that supports ongoing maintenance. Finally, oiling can be one of the more environmentally conscious solutions — especially when choosing oils made with eco-friendly ingredients, such as our indoor oil Oil Plus 2C (and our exterior oil DuroGrit for outdoor projects).
Treating Untreated Indoor Wood
1. Preparation
Before you begin oiling, the surface must be clean and free from dirt and old treatment residues.
For light dust and surface dirt, clean the wood using our Cleaner and a damp cloth.
If the wood has visible scratches or uneven areas, lightly sanding the surface may be the best approach. Always remove sanding dust before applying oil.
2. Choose the Right Wood Oil
Different oils are best depending on where and how the wood will be used. For indoor furniture and floors, we recommend Oil Plus 2C. Outdoor wood (such as decking and garden furniture) often needs an oil with extra UV protection — like our exterior oil DuroGrit.
Oil Plus 2C Can Be Used on All Indoor Wood Surfaces
After preparing the wood, it’s time to choose your finishing product. Many people choose oil because it’s an effective way to protect against moisture and wear, while giving the wood a natural-looking finish. At Rubio Monocoat, we recommend our universal indoor oil Oil Plus 2C, suitable for all kinds of indoor wood surfaces — such as teak and many other wood species.
When applying the oil, we recommend using a wide brush and starting with small amounts on smaller areas. Then gently wipe away any excess oil. With Oil Plus 2C, a single coat is enough to achieve a strong, protective result. The surface is dry after around 24 hours, but fully cured after 5 days.
Benefits of Oiling
Oiling is an effective solution for indoor wood treatment. It provides strong protection against moisture because the oil penetrates the wood and creates a natural barrier against moisture and dirt. It also enhances the wood’s grain and colour and requires only light maintenance when needed.
If you choose Oil Plus 2C, you can feel confident you’re using an environmentally friendly product, made with eco-friendly and food-contact compliant ingredients.
Maintenance Tips
To keep treated wood looking beautiful and performing well, regular maintenance is important. This mainly includes frequent cleaning to prevent dirt from settling into the wood and causing unnecessary wear. Avoid harsh cleaning products, as they can damage the surface. We recommend cleaning with All Natural Wood Cleaner or Universal Soap. In addition, re-treating the wood with oil will be necessary when the surface shows signs of wear, to keep it protected and nourished.
In Summary
When treating indoor wood, it’s important to choose an oil that matches the wood type and the purpose of the surface. We recommend our universal indoor oil Oil Plus 2C, suitable for all wood species and indoor wood applications.
With just one coat, you’ll achieve a beautiful, durable result that helps preserve the wood for many years to come.
